Could you share additional information about Happy Campers?

Happy Campers Preschool launched its first center in 1996 after successfully operating an in-home family childcare business. Our vision was always to expand and establish a dedicated center. On our inaugural day, we welcomed one child, and soon after, more children joined us, making this journey incredibly fulfilling. In 2014, we opened the Happy Campers Infant Toddler Center, and in 2017, we partnered with SUHSD to establish Happy Campers at Carlmont. Over the years, Happy Campers has received multiple BEST PRESCHOOL🤩 awards, a testament to our success, which we attribute to our outstanding staff and the unwavering commitment of our owner/executive director, Audra Tsivikas. There’s no better way to spend our days than surrounded by children.

Can children with special needs enroll at Happy Campers?

Yes, Happy Campers programs serve children with special needs. We are committed to inclusive programs that address the diverse needs of children while emphasizing individual strengths. Teachers undergo extra training to enhance their skills. Happy Campers promotes a collaborative approach, where teachers, directors, specialists, and parents work together to create and implement plans for each child.

What are the attributes and credentials of the teaching and caregiving staff?

Happy Campers is dedicated to recruiting and hiring top-quality teachers. Our staff members are not only educators but also nurturers who promote learning through exploration and collaboration with parents. They are trained to provide the highest standard of care. Each candidate goes through a comprehensive screening process, which includes an FBI/DOJ background check with fingerprinting and immunization verification. All teachers are required to meet state educational licensing standards as well as additional center-specific requirements.

How is Happy Campers prioritizing the health and safety of children, families, and staff at our centers?

At all our centers, we prioritize rigorous health and safety practices as the foundation of our child care. These practices include:

  • A daily health check policy aimed at reducing illness transmission.

  • Regular cleaning and disinfecting of frequently touched surfaces and toys, along with laundering soft items.

  • Ongoing maintenance of the center, equipment, and supplies, with timely updates and replacements.

  • Secure entrances at all locations.

  • Strict handwashing and sanitation protocols to prevent illness spread.

  • A curriculum that promotes healthy habits for children.

  • Daily sign-in and sign-out requirements for families.

Our stringent safety and security measures are in place to protect both our families and staff.

Are all staff trained in CPR and First Aid and Mandated Reporter Training?

The team at Happy Campers Center is certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid. Upon hiring, each employee must undergo 16 hours of training during a two-day orientation, observing different age groups and completing online training courses. Teachers must either successfully finish CPR and First Aid Training or hold a valid, non-expired certificate. Current staff must renew their CPR and First Aid Training every two years, as mandated by the State, which also requires all staff to complete Mandated Reporter Training. Since childcare providers and preschool teachers are obligated to report any signs of child abuse, all staff must receive this training biennially.  Training is paid for by Happy Campers and takes place during one of the Teacher-In-Service Training Days.
